Beavers Bend Part 2

What we did and where we stayed in the Beavers Bend area in Oklahoma.

Beavers Bend Part 2

Things to do and see

After hiking around the Beavers Bend area (see part 1 for the beginning of our Beavers Bend weekend) we decided to go to a place that served Coffee and Ice Cream, Okie Girls Coffee and Ice Cream.  We just had ice cream.  It was nothing special.  The line was pretty long though.  The coffee smelled great, and if the line was not so long, I might have gone back and tried some.

Swinging Bed & Hot Tub

We went back to our cabin and tried out the swinging bed on the balcony.  That was pretty cool!  We just relaxed out there for a while, listening to the peace and quiet.  I really wanted to take a nap, but it was a bit too cold for that.  Seriously, it was so peaceful!  I could easily have spent more time out if the weather was a little warmer.

I got back in the hot tub for a nice warm up.  Wow!  Did that feel great after hiking around in the cooler temperatures and my poor aching knee.  It was a beautiful view from the hot tub, plus peace and quiet!  I spent quite a bit of time in the hot tub just enjoying the bubbly warmth and the crisp fall air. Everyone deserves a break like this.  Away from the hustle and bustle of life, and a small break from the kidos was nice too.

Hot tub in the back of the cabin.  We had a view of the woods!  LOVED!

More Wine and Food

Around 7:00 p.m. we decided to go eat, but first we wanted to go by Girls Gone Wine Winery.  It was busy every time we went by, so we decided to check it out later in the day.  It was not busy at all when we went in.  We were able to go right up to the waitress and do a wine tasting.  We ended up buying 4 bottles of wine and my husband got a glass of winearita, which he really enjoyed.  They have lots of wine accessories and other neat gifts to take home.  I was looking at lights that you could put in your wine bottle to light up as a cute and easy craft for my house.  The price seemed a little high, I believe around $20 for one set of lights.  When I got home later I found these lights on Amazon, and you get a set of 6 for $13.00.  Glad I didn’t buy any at the store.)

Dinner

For dinner, we went to Abendigo’s Grill and Patio.  We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table.  They have a gift shop as you enter the restaurant so we looked around that for a while, then sat down and waited.  The cashier was friendly and visited with us a bit.  The hostess took us to a nice quiet table in a corner.  I guess they were pretty busy because it took at least 10 minutes for the waitress to come to our table.  She apologized and said there was confusion on the tables tonight.  She was very friendly and apologetic.  We ordered drinks and an appetizer of spinach and artichoke dip with homemade chips.  Those came out pretty quickly, and we ordered our meal.  The dip and chips were delicious and were great for settling my hungry stomach.  My husband ordered a steak and baked potato.  I ordered the Pasta Louisiana.  Both of our meals were delicious, but our service was very slow.  My husband finally had to track down the waitress to pay for our meal, after waiting a long time after we finished our meal.  Great food, but if you’re in a hurry you might try somewhere else.  We weren’t in a hurry and enjoyed our meal.  A bit frustrated with the service though. They also had a band playing that night, and a lot of people came in late for that.  We were there until a little after 9:00 p.m.

Breakfast and more Hot Tub time

We both woke up pretty early the next morning and decided to go have breakfast.  The guest book had lots of good recommendations for Steven’s Gap Restaurant, so that’s where we headed.  When we pulled up no one was there and we realized they did not open until 8:00 a.m.  It was about 7:30, so we drove down the road and stopped at a gift shop/grocery shop/deli type store called Adam and Eve’s.  We just browsed and didn’t buy anything but they had quite a bit to offer.

Breakfast

We went back to Steven’s Gap Restaurant and there were several cars in the parking lot and people standing at the entrance and it was just barely 8:00 a.m.   When we got up to the door we realized the restaurant was not open yet.  More people pulled up, and we waited outside in line.  The place looked small, and I really didn’t want to have to wait for a table too.  We waited for almost 15 minutes, and I was about to find somewhere else to eat when they finally opened the door.  We found a table and a waitress greeted us right away.  The place reminded me of the days when I vacationed with my family as a kid.  My dad loved the family style cafes (like Mel’s Diner) and this is what Stephen’s Gap Restaurant reminded me of.  We ordered our drinks,  and then our food.  Their selection was home-style meals.  They even had cakes and pies you could buy.  Everything was served quickly.  Such a relief from the evening before.  The food was great and so was the service.  My husband and I both left clean plates.  We will go back, but maybe not super early next time.  =)

Hot Tub

We went back to our cabin, and I quickly dressed to get in the hot tub.  I was savoring my last moments in it!  I really need one of these at my house.  Maybe someday.

Coffee & Fudge

We packed up and headed home.  Before we left town we made one more stop in Hochatown at Hochatown Fudge & Coffee (I believe that was the name of it, I’m not finding much information on it now that I’m home).  You could try samples of fudge and they also had a couple of selections of coffee to try.  I tried several pieces of fudge and it was all delicious.  I also had a cup of coffee that tasted great.  We ended up buying a pound of fudge.  Some of it was for my mom for watching our youngest daughter while we were on our trip.

We had a wonderful time on our trip to southeast Oklahoma.  We are already talking about going back and taking the kids.  I think Spring or Fall would be best.  I imagine it is really crowded during the summer.

Conclusion

Have you been to the Beaver’s Bend area in Oklahoma?  What did you do or like the most?  Have you gone somewhere special for a romantic getaway?  Where was it?  I would love to hear from you.
