Chicken Math

Have you heard of Chicken Math? If you are an owner of chickens I’m sure you have heard the term used. If you are not familiar with it, I’m about to explain it.

Chicken Math is the need to increase the amount of chickens in your flock. Once you have chickens, you feel the desire to own more. It’s kind of an addiction.

Some stores will encourage Chicken Math. You may go into your local farm supply store expecting to purchase 2 chickens, but then the clerk tells you they will only sell you 6 or more at a time. So now you are forced to buy more chickens!

Another cause of Chicken Math is the desire to have a variety of breeds of chickens from Buff Orpingtons to Bantams. Chickens also lay different colors of eggs, so there is the desire to have chickens who lay special colored eggs, such as blue eggs.

Since it is Spring here, I’ve had to fight the Chicken Math urge to buy more baby chickens at Tractor Supply. Every time I drive by I see the big sign, “We have baby chicks!”.

To help dispel the urge for more chickens I have put this shopping guide together for you. Though I will admit that some of the gifts may encourage Chicken Math.
