Welcome to Day 18 of 31 Awesome Days of Fall Activities With Your Kids. Today we are going to upcycle wine corks. How to Make a Sailboat From Wine Corks is a super easy craft to do with your kids. If you are anything like me, you will have lots of wine corks! I don’t always save my corks, but I had plenty for this small project.
What your kids will learn from How to Make a Sailboat from Wine Corks
- Density
- Cutting
- Shapes
Supplies
- 3 Corks
- Toothpick
- Rubberbands, I used elastic hair bands
- Thumbtack
- Paper, I used cardstock
- Laminator (optional)
Instructions
- If you plan to laminate your paper, do that first. The reason I laminated it, was so that it would remain usable and not hold the moisture when it was in the water.
- Cut a triangle from your paper. Let your child do this. It’s great practice for little ones.
- Next, you will use the tack to poke a hole in the top and the bottom of the triangle, like the photo below.
- Line up your 3 corks and put one rubber band (or hair elastic) around all 3 corks, keeping them lined up. You will put a rubber band on each end of the corks. See the photos below.
- Next, you will take your thumbtack and poke a hole in the middle of the corks. See photo below.
- Put the toothpick in the two holes that you made in the paper triangle, then place one end in the hole you made on the cork. See photos below
Conclusion
Now your child will have a cute little-upcycled sailboat they can play with. Of course, if your child is under three years old, this would not be a safe toy for them to play with. Make sure your child is old enough to use and play with this toy. I hope you liked our How to Make a Toy Sailboat From Wine Corks activity, if you do, leave a comment below.
