How to Make Fizzy Scented Bath Bombs

I love creating crafts that are useful and that are perfect for my daughter.  This easy How to Make Fizzy Scented Bath Bombs craft is perfect for kids to create and use, or even give as a gift.

I recently partnered with Simply Earth Essential Oils and adore their monthly subscription box. Now I have the tools to create things like bath bombs for a relaxing spa bath or gifts for family and friends.

My daughter has been looking at the bath bomb kits at the store and asking for one, but I really don’t know how safe those ingredients are.  I decided it was time to make up my own recipe and create our own bath bombs.

Supplies

  • Baking Soda
  • Epsom Salt
  • Corn Starch
  • Citric Acid
  • Coconut Oil
  • Warm Water
  • Essential Oils
  • Molds

What You Can Teach Your Kids

Explain to your kids that bath bombs fizzing are a chemical reaction. When the citric acid and the baking soda react, they form new molecules. One of those molecules is carbon dioxide (CO2). This is a gas, and the sudden production of gas molecules in the mixture causes small bubbles to form. That is what you create when you put the bath bombs in the tub.

Pro Tips

  • Pack your mixture in the molds VERY firmly.
  • If you have extra of your mixture (that you did not put in the molds) or you have some that falls off the molds after they dry, you can use it as bath fizz. I put our extra in a baggie and just sprinkle it across the tub. You still get the fizz it just fizzes out quicker than the bombs.
  • Try not to make bath bombs when the weather is humid
  • Use silicone molds or bath bomb molds. This will make creating the bombs super easy!
  • You can buy citric acid to make your bombs FIZZ!
