Welcome to Day 8 of 31 Awesome Days of Fall Activities With Your Kids. Today we are going to make a fun holiday craft with our laminator and show you How To Make Laminated Suncatchers With Your Kids. You will need a laminator, laminator sheets, wax paper, permanent markers, scissors, and double-sided tape. You may also use cookie cutters for tracing or any color sheet for tracing. Freehanding your artwork is fine too.
With this project I let my daughter color everything without telling her how to do it, besides advising her to stay in the lines. If she wanted her cat to be pink, instead of black for Halloween, I let her. She came up with some pretty interesting combinations. LOL! She is pretty much into every color in the rainbow. Most of her artwork from school comes home multi-colored. She rarely uses just one color for objects that require only one color. Instead of a black cat, she will make a rainbow colored cat.
I love my laminator and I am always trying to find new creative ways to use it! It’s really neat when I can involve my daughter too.

What your kids will learn from How To Make Laminated Suncatchers
- Creativity
- Fine motor skills
- Cutting and using scissors
Supplies
- Laminator machine (click for the one we have)
- laminator sheets
- permanent marker (or regular Crayola markers)
- wax paper
- scissors
- double sided sticky tape
Instructions
Cut the wax paper down so that it will fit inside the laminator sheets. I cut mine to 8 1/2 x 11, the size of a regular sheet of paper. Trace around a cookie cutter of your choice. We used Halloween cookie cutters for the season. I also traced a coloring page for a couple of our suncatchers.
Let your child color the outlines. Encourage them to fill the outlines with lots of colors.
Place the colored wax paper inside of a laminator sheet, then laminate according to your laminator’s directions.
Let your child cut out their suncatchers. This is a great way to help younger children practice their cutting skills with scissors.
Place double-sided sticky tape on the back of each suncatcher and hang on windows. The sun was not shining, so this photo does not really show how well the sun shines through.
I will post better photos when I have them. My daughter decided they all should be scary. She’s ready for a spooky Halloween, I guess. She actually does not like scary things, so I’m not sure what she was thinking when she made these.
