How to Make Unpoppable Bubbles

Welcome to day 12 of 31 Awesome Activities With Your Kids.  Today we are going to show you How to Make Unpoppable Bubbles.  Unpoppable bubbles are easy to make, and a lot of fun for your kids!  They will think it’s magic.  My daughter had so much fun with this experiment.

What you will need:

How to make Unpoppable Bubbles

  1. Start with a bowl, and add your water.  If using food color, add it and mix.
  2. Add the dish soap and stir.
  3. Mix in the corn syrup.
  4. Now experiment with your unpoppable bubbles! Dip the tip of the pencil into the mixture. Then, dip one end of the straw into the mixture and blow into the other end to make a bubble. Try to pop it with the pencil. Did it pop? What would happen if you did not dip the tip of the pencil into the mixture? Try the same thing with your finger.  Drop a penny in your bubble, what happened?  Can you make layers of bubbles on the table?

In the below videos our table was pretty slick, so that helped the bubbles not pop.  It was a little messy, but a lot of fun!  This would make a great science project for your kids too.  You can explain to your children that bubbles are made of two basic things: a ‘skin’ that is mostly composed of a thin film of water, and some air. Adding soap and corn syrup to water helps make stronger bubbles because soap and corn syrup molecules can squeeze in between water molecules and help the film of water stretch out without breaking.  This is what keeps them from popping so quickly.

Conclusion

Do you have any fun and simple kids projects?  I would love for you to tell me about them, or share a link in the comments.
